RYA Yachtmaster Ocean

Coastal Skipper yacht master theoryThis course is for the adventurous, or it may appeal to those of you who are just interested in knowing more. For those who are looking at careers involving ocean crossings such as delivery work, this may be a very useful addition to existing qualifications.

The course looks at all of the key aspects of ocean sailing covering topics including understanding the earth and the celestial sphere, use of a sextant, sun and star sights, use of satellite navigations systems, meteorology, great circle sailing, passage planning and passage making, and communications.

Invigilated assessments

If you wish to take the RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Ocean oral exam, the RYA require the end of course theory assessment to be invigilated by an RYA Instructor at an RYA recognised Training Centre. Alternatively, the candidate can opt to take an extra paper during the oral exam.
If you wish to take an invigilated assessment at the end of the theory course rather than take an extra paper during the oral exam, please let us know in advance and we can arrange for you to take the assessment at one of our participating centres.

There will be a fee for the invigilation which is at the discretion of the chosen RYA recognised Training Centre.

COURSE OUTCOMES

Following successful completion of an assessment, a RYA Yachtmaster ™ Ocean Theory certificate will be issued.
