CEVNI stands for Code European des Voies de Navigation Intérieure. It is the code governing navigation on the interconnected European inland waterways. Signs, rules and procedures for navigating the European inland waterways are all included within the CEVNI code, and pleasure craft are expected to know and follow the code. Knowing and abiding by the regulations is the best way to protect yourself and your boat.
If you operate a marine VHF radio on a British flagged vessel you are legally required to hold a VHF operator’s licence, unless under the supervision of a qualified operator. The Short Range Certificate (SRC) is the operator’s licence required for Class D radios, the type fitted to most leisure craft.
The Online VHF SRC Radio Course allows you to take the course at your own pace, when it suits you, where it suits you. It takes about 10 hours. After the online course you take a pre knowledge assessment once you have passed the assessment you will down load a certificate which you will need to take with you to the PRE BOOKED RYA test centre as proof you have taken the course and then sit the practical and theory assessment. Allow roughly 1 hour for the final assessment. Watch our video –
Before you undertake your Short Range Certificate (SRC) Marine radio training it maybe advisable to go armed with a little knowledge of the basics. This will allow you to concentrate on the more complex information included in the course.
Safe & Fun Safeguarding Course
This new course is suitable for anyone working with children and vulnerable adults in an RYA environment. This includes those volunteering or working at recognised training centres and affiliated clubs.
It provides a basic level of knowledge and awareness, put in the context of realistic scenarios that anyone could encounter at their club or centre.
It is a requirement for all newly qualifying Level 2 Racing Coaches, Dinghy and Windsurfing Instructors and Senior Instructors to complete prior to their instructor/coach training course. They must also complete a pre-course worksheet which is accessed within the Safe & Fun course, and take that with them to the instructor course.
This course is fully online and, like all RYA courses, will be offered by training centres recognised to do so. A list of those centres is available in our Where’s My Nearest search at the top of your screen.

Professional Practices and Responsibilities
A compulsory online course for RYA Commercial Endorsement holders.
Who this course is for
Each year approximately 4,500 people apply to the RYA for a commercial endorsement in order to use their RYA qualifications professionally as skipper or crew. You could be doing anything from delivering a new 35’ yacht or driving a workboat with lifting and towing gear, to running a superyacht in the Med. Whatever your job is on board, in the commercial world you are a professional seafarer. As such, you are no different from the captain of a cruise liner – you have a duty of care to crew, passengers, and other water users, and you will be held to account if things go wrong.
The course is broken down into four modules:
